Introduction
In January 2007, the Town of Purcellville retained the consultant team of CH2M HILL and GeoTrans to prepare a Water Resource Study. This study was a result of the drought that occurred in 2006 & 2007. This event forced the Town into water restrictions after experiencing peak demands greater than currently available supplies. The purpose of the Water Resource Study was to provide strategically timed, reliable, and implementable water supply capacity to meet the Town’s growing near-term deficit and long-term water resource needs and regulatory requirements.
At the time, the Town was supplied by 5 wells, 1 surface water reservoir and 3 springs with a total finished water capacity of 0.68 mgd and had experienced peak demands of over 0.77 mgd. Faced with both near-term and long-term water supply deficits, the Town decided to move forward with a multi-staged approach that would take a comprehensive view of all options, resulting in a Total Water Management Plan.
